Hudson Bates

Harold Hudson Bates (born April 17, 1994), is an English singer-songwriter and television presenter.

Born and raised in Brentwood, Essex, Bates spent his entire childhood with his mother Maude Bates, and, at the tender age of 17, gained nationwide attention after winning the 2011 series of the British televised talent show Moneymaker. Shortly afterwards, he signed with Cowbell Records and began his music career, with his mother stepping into the role as his manager.

In 2012, Bates released his extended play, titled Oedipus Nights (2012), which topped charts across Europe and won him a Pre-Teen Choice Award for Fresh-Faced Pop Artist, and even inspired an internet meme of the same name. During the height of his career, he also ventured in presenting numerous reality television shows, including Made in Cheltenham, Bridal Wave, and even his own series, Hudson and Mother (2014-2016).

Then in 2017, his mother died in unspecified circumstances, and Bates sunk into a brief depression, which would go on to become the prime influence of his debut album, Mother's Day (2017). Dedicated to his mother's memory, the album was commercially successful and generated hit singles such as "Dropped as a Baby" and "Mother and Me".

For his Mother's Day album, Bates has received numerous accolades, including five WTF Awards, two Mic Drop Awards, eight Pre-Teen Choice Awards, and two Online Fad Awards for Most Emo and Best Original Internet Meme respectively.
